1965 saw the Stones prove themselves capable of writing classic rock singles that mined their R&B and blues roots, but updated them into a more guitar-based, thoroughly contemporary context.

Features a couple of underrated early pop gems – I’m Free, and the sublimely cynical Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man. There are also standout mid-’60s soul covers, including Marvin Gaye’s Hitch Hike, Solomon Burke’s Cry to Me, and Sam Cooke’s Good Times, as well as their own, soulful plea – Heart Of Stone.
